After playing a little catch up it's back to normal here on the countdown to the basketball season as we bring you Traevon Jackson number of days away from opening tip. That's right, just 12 days away! With the news of Josh Gasser's injury Jackson's role could become vastly more important to this team.
*17
That's the number of games Jackson played last season, his freshman year. That was 2nd in the freshman class behind Frank Kaminsky's 35 games played last year. Jackson averaged 5.4 minutes in those 17 games and played mostly as the point guard behind both Taylor and Gasser at times.
*3:7
That was Jackson's assist to turnover ratio on the season. Something that prompted many to believe he would make a move from the point to the off guard position. However, that may be on hold a bit with the news of Gasser's injury and the fact that he's the only player on the current roster with any game experience at the position. Either way those numbers need to see a lot of improvement if he wants extended playing time at all this year.
*37.5%
Jackson hit 37.5% of his 3 point attempts last season, going 3 for 8 from behind the arc in his limited playing time. That number could be important with losing Gasser's production behind the arc as well.
Andy's Predictions: 12mpg, 4.5ppg, 1.1apg
Analysis: Coming into this pas weekend Jackson might have been a player kind of buried in the thoughts of most Badger basketball fans and rightfully so. However, the Gasser injury changes all of that and it wouldn't surprise me to see him playing a vastly more important role this year as the only experienced ball handler on this team. That doesn't mean I see him starting, but I expect him to be the one playing behind Marshall and he could well earn the majority of the minutes if Marshall just can't handle the situation.
