BEHIND THE JERSEY NUMBERS: #15 Days, Sam Dekker

BEHIND THE JERSEY NUMBERS: #15 Days, Sam Dekker

Just more then two weeks left in our countdown to Wisconsin Hoops. With 15 days left until the Badgers' opener against Southeastern Louisiana, today we look at Freshman Forward #15 Sam Dekker.

*32.5

In his Senior year at Sheboygan Lutheran High School, Dekker averaged an insane 28.9 points a game. Dekker's offensive arsenal is arguably the most dangerous on this Wisconsin team. He has a hunch for finding his way to the basket and finishing contact layups and slams. Dekker also has the ability to create a shot off the dribble and to make off-balanced jumpers. He's got an array of fakes and moves that make him an extremley tough cover for the defense.

…more after the jump…

*2.3

On the defensive side of the ball, Dekker averaged 2.3 blocks a game his Senior season along with 1.6 steals a game. With his long lanky build, Dekker is great at tipping passes and altering shots. Though one of his weaknesses comes in defensive one on one situations, especially against quicker players. His defensive footwork could still use some improvement.

*40

In Sheboygan Lutheran's first ever trip to the Wisconsin State Championship, Dekker made his mark. He recorded 40 points on 16-28 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds in route to winning his school's first ever WIAA Championship. Oh, did I mention he made arguably the most memorable play in Wisconsin High School Basketball History?

*13.2

In his senior year at Sheboygan Lutheran, Dekker averaged 13.2 rebounds a game. With Bruesewitz missing time because of injury, Dekker is really going to have to add to the rebounding contribution early on. He was a good rebounder in high school and I don't think it'll be any different in College.

Cole's 2012 Projected Stats for Sam Dekker:  24.9 mpg,  10.7 ppg, 1.2 apg, 4.4 rpg, 0.8 bpg

Analysis: Dekker is arguably the most talented kid Bo Ryan has ever brought in to Madison. I mean that.  He and Bo are a perfect combination. If you asked Bo Ryan to create an ideal basketball player, it would be pretty damn close to Sam Dekker. He's truly a special guy. His offense arsenal combined with his clutch play and cold bloodedness is a deadly combo.  If Bo needs a player to knock down a big shot at the end of the game, it's likely going to be Dekker. Ultimatley, Dekker could be the difference in the Badgers losing in the 1st or 2nd round in the NCAA tourney or making a final four run.
