Ben Hemer to 2014 Badger football

Wisconsin are just 72…err, Ben Hemer to kicking off the season in style against LSU, and with another day comes another look at a Badger player.

Ben, the younger brother of former starting defensive end Ethan Hemer, is hoping the next four years will be about making his own name in a Badger uniform.

Hemer’s Story So Far:

– Redshirted this past season to put on more weight for the offensive line after a high school career in Medford, Wis. that saw him reach all-conference honors as both an offensive and defensive lineman.

– Walked on to Wisconsin for the 2013 class.

What to Expect in 2014:

The younger Hemer plays on the other side of the ball, and that should help him forge his own path at UW. However, with the depth the Badgers are adding along the line, Hemer may be buried on the depth chart in his redshirt freshman season. He’ll have to fight hard to earn playing time as an offensive lineman, and it may not come this season. He’s athletic enough to fit the Badgers zone blocking scheme and should be someone to keep an eye on as a developmental prospect for the future.
