In preparation for the start of EuroBasket next week, Latvia made final cuts to bring the final roster to 12 players.
It appears San Antonio Spurs second round draft pick Davis Bertans has made the team and will be competing with Latvia in Group B, which will also feature Tony Parker and Nando De Colo on the French national team.
“Deciding on the squad composition was very difficult,” Bagatskis said. “All the players worked from the heart, all tried and could also help us.”
This will be a good chance for Spurs fans to get an early look at Bertans, who likely will continue to develop overseas for at least a few more years.
The 18-year-old forward will likely display his perimeter jumper and quick release, but it could also be a good time to see where he is at on the defensive end, considered his greatest downfall.
While Bertans is 6-10, don’t expect to see him mixing it up in the paint much. He’s better served playing outside causing matchup issues for opposing teams.
Bertans and Latvia will draw France first next Wednesday to tip off EuroBasket in Lithuania.
