Best developments of Day One of practice

The energy, pace and tempo were excellent. Every speaker on Media Day emphasized practice and preparation, and the commitment level of this group is very high.

Chris Courtney of Educk reports that De’Anthony Thomas is working exclusively at running back. Head coach Chip Kelly told Courtney, “He’s exclusively playing running back and working with coach Campbell.”

Wide Receiver Rahsaan Vaughn is in camp, in uniform, and had a great practice. 6-2, 195 and fast, he looked sharp, making several catches, including a long one from Bryan Bennett down the sideline.

Duck Sports Authority’s Tony DiFrancisco noted that in Chip Kelly’s two years as head coach, his two recruiting classes have all qualified academically. This is a great testament to the integrity of the recruiting process at Oregon, and the quality of their evaluation. Having Vaughn and Kelley make grades and suit up from the start of practice gives the Ducks depth and options at wide receiver, one of the big question marks in the minds of some analysts given the loss of Jeff Maehl and Drew Davis.

Rob Moseley said Kiko Alonso and Cliff Harris participated fully, with Alonso taking most of the reps with the ones.

Football is here. The Ducks play #4 LSU in 26 days.
