When the Chicago Cubs backed into the Playoffs last weekend and ended their seven-year postseason drought, it did nothing but add more mystique to the “Back to the Future II” prognostication that the team is going to win the World Series.
We’ve all heard it.
Thursday, actor/comedian Tom Wilson (with DeLorean in tow), was on WGN and predicted a Cubs victory. And we’ve got to believe him, right…he played “Biff Tannen” in the famed Robert Zemeckis trilogy for Chrissake!
“I think it’s manifest destiny,” the lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan said in a radio interview. “So many people come up to me and say ‘Would you place the bet? I’ll give you $50, but you have to place the bet on the Cubs to win.’ So good luck to the Cubs…(they) could get on a hot streak. You never know.”
Unfortunately, there are a couple things Cubs fans continue to ignore. First, the obvious. There is a not a Miami team that uses an alligator (or crocodile?) as a mascot. Next, how could the World Series be over on October 21 (sweep or otherwise) when Game One isn’t slated to start until October 27?
All sarcasm aside…it’s fun to dream, right?
