The Big 33 all star game pitting Ohio and Pennsylvania was a giant success for one soon to be Bearcat. Two future Bearcats played in the game, Akise Teague and Jameel Poteat, but it was Mr Ohio who shined. Teague busted a 52 yard TD run for the first score of the game, and followed that with a 20 yard TD run for the second. With Ohio up 28-7 at the half, Teague started the second with a 40 yard TD catch. Akise had 168 yards on 10 touches. That was good enough to win him the player of the game honors. Looking at twitter on Saturday night, I saw a lot of praise for Teague. He was electric in the open field, and described as a shifty runner. His 102 rushing yards attest for that. Ohio won the game 50-14 by the way. The reason for the weird score is that Ohio went for 2 late in the game. Here is a Teauge report from the site the O Zone:
Akise Teague, RB Youngstown Ursuline 5’9” 178 (Cincinnati)
He’s simply the best player on the field. Talking to a local before the game they asked me who to keep an eye on. I told them Teague. He has a remarkable ability to make defenders look like it’s their first day of playing football. He holds the football in one hand, and the defense in the other. He is an amazing player.
Cool stuff right there. As for Poteat, he and Pennsylvania couldn’t do much. As a team, they ran for negative yards. Leave no doubt about it though, Cincinnati is loaded at the running back position. Isaiah Pead is one of the best in the Big East, Darrin Williams is back after injury, George Winn is there, Poteat is a high level recruit, and Teague has been a great high school player. I fully expect Teague to take over as the return man. I like DJ Woods a bunch, but returning kicks wasn’t exactly the thing he was born to do. Darrin Williams returned a couple kicks last season after Hazelton got hurt. A duo of Williams and Teague seems dangerous. UC has something special with Teague. As the embedded video shows, he wants 10 TDs this season. Here’s hoping he comes through.
