Big East Power Rankings: Week 6

Before we start with the Big East power rankings, there is something that is really pissing me off. If you haven’t heard, the NCAA has ruled that Louisville freshman Gorgui Dieng is ineligible this season. The reason is some bullshit about how his credits didn’t transfer over from Africa or some, well to use it twice in a sentence, bullshit. Dieng had no problems with any of his American classes, and obviously Louisville thought it was all good. Louisville itself has had this problem quite a lot lately. Justin Coleman and Robert Sallie were both ruled ineligible for this season. Same with a couple of football players. Either Louisville has a problem with it’s compliance office, or they are finding out the hard way that the NCAA is a bunch of corrupt, spineless, afraid to take a stand dumb fucks. The NCAA clears Eric Bledsoe, only to investigate his transcript this summer. The NCAA clears Derrick Rose, only to vacate Memphis’ season. It’s not on Memphis that Derrick Rose shouldn’t have been eligible. It’s on the NCAA. The NCAA loves doing the right thing after the fact. It’s what they fucking live for. In some cases, like Minnesota basketball cheating, or the Reggie Bush stuff, they aren’t too bad. In cases like Dieng and others, who have no holes in their resumes and should have no problem playing, it’s a disgrace. The NCAA does nothing but talk out the sides of their mouth about everything. They are worried about players missing school for a football tournament, even though they play on the weekends and every other fucking division does it. They sure don’t give a shit when teams go to bowl games, in fact, they invent more games so every gets a chance. What’s the real message NCAA? They don’t care for basketball players going to school, as evidenced by the fact they try to make money off basketball every chance they get. Teams travel to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Orlando, New York, all during the school year. They travel to conference tournaments for a whole week. They travel to the NCAA tournament for a week. And the NCAA wants to add more games, and did this year. All they want are our dollars. They could give a shit if there was a tournament in college football. There easily could be. But there won’t be because god forbid Alabama plays twice in January. If adding a bowl game is too much, they could keep the same number of games, just using the Rose, Sugar, Orange and Fiesta bowls as semi-finals and keeping the National Title game. They won’t do that because that’s two schools missing out on BCS money. That takes away from their overlord, the mighty dollar. But the NCAA will sure as shit sanction the Fart.com bowl between the 9th place MAC team and the 5th place Sun Belt team. It’s such a fucking sham, and it makes me hate college sports. At least in the big leagues, the owners don’t lie about wanting only money and not giving a fuck about the players. The NCAA tries to protect the players, while also holding them hostage and exploiting them. It’s a fucking joke.

Big East play starts this week. Since there are two games, the team will be #1 next week will be the one to win more impressively. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s see who I ranked first this week.

1) West Virginia Mountaineers 3-1. West Virginia had a week off, so there is nothing interesting to write here. Let’s move on.

2) Pittsburgh Panthers 2-2. The Panthers destroyed Florida International, 44-17. It was tight until the 4th quarter, when the Panthers exploded for 28 points. Ray Graham started for Dion Lewis, who didn’t play, and had a monster game. Graham went for 29-277-3 TDs, including a 79 yarder to bust it open. Tino Sunseri bounced back well, 15-23-177-1 TD. Most of the yards went to Mike Shanahan, 4-82.

3) South Florida Bulls 3-1. The Bulls whooped up on Florida Atlantic 31-3. The Bulls blocked a punt for a TD, and held the Owl to 208 yards, while forcing 3 turnovers. BJ Daniels went 14-19-155-1 TD. The TD went to Dontavia Bogan, who had 66 yards. Mo Planchard had 20-92-2 TDs on the ground.

4) Connecticut Huskies 2-2. The Huskies look like a different team now that Cody Endres has taken over at QB. The Huskies destroyed Vanderbilt 40-21. Endres was 21-30-179-2 TDs-1 INT, helping them look like a different team. Jonathan Todman blew away Vandy on the ground with 37-190-2 TDs on the ground. Michael Smith had 63 yards receiving, with Dwayne Difton adding 58. The Huskies gave up 325 yards, something to watch.

5) Syracuse Orange 3-1. Syracuse didn’t play this week. Next.

6) Cincinnati Bearcats 1-3. The Bearcats are still the only team with a losing record in the Big East, but someone could join them this week.

7) Louisville Cardinals 2-2. The Cardinals won 34-24 over Arkansas State, but it was much closer than that in the second half. The Cardinals let a huge lead go, before scoring a field goal with 4 minutes left to ice it. Adam Froman continues to look like a competent QB, going 21-33-308-3 TDs-1 INT. The Cards had 2 100 yard rushers. Bilal Powell keeps pleading his case as Big East running back of the early season, with 21-157-1 TD on the ground, and 2-65-1 TD in the air. Victor Anderson had his first 100 yard game since last September, with 18-108. Josh Bellamy had 4-66-2 TDs receiving. The Cards had 575 yards, but gave up 408.

8) Rutgers Scarlet Knights 2-2. Rutgers gets the bottom spot after losing at home to Tulane, 17-14. Mohamed Sanu had a 91 yard run for a TD quickly into the game, but the Rutgers offense wasn’t very good after. Sanu had 121 yards on the ground, with 70 in the air and a TD. He continues to be the Rutgers offense. Tom Savage was hurt in the game, and is a game time decision Friday. Chas Dodd was 13-29-176-1 TD-1 INT, so they probably need Savage back.
