Big East Tournament Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of the Big East tournament is in the books, so let’s take a look back at what happened yesterday, and a brief look ahead to what’s on the bill for tomorrow. Even though I lost some in the predictions, check them out here.

8 Georgetown 69 9 South Florida 49 – The Hoyas dominated the Bulls from the get go. South Florida shot just 29% as their NCAA tournament chances probably went up in smoke. They had a hell of a season, but Georgetown hit 7 triples and shot 45% in the domination. For the Hoyas, Greg Monroe had 16-8, Jason Clark 16-6-3 steals and Chris Wright 15-6-4 assists. The Bulls were lead by Dominique Jones and his 21-5-4.
Up next: 8 Georgetown v. 1 Syracuse (ESPN 12pm)

5 Marquette 57 13 St John’s 55 – Marquette blew a 12 point lead 6 minutes into the second half, and held on for dear life as they were able to outlast the Johnnies. David Cubillan had the balls of thunder as he drilled a 3 with 1:15 remaining to give Marquette the lead for good. DJ Kennedy turned the ball over on the next possession, and Lazar Hayward hit a pair of free throws. St John’s could only cut the lead to 2, and had a chance to win on a half court shot. The winning Golden Eagles were lead by Lazar Hayward’s 20-9. Sean Evans had 12-7 and DJ Kennedy 12-5-4 assists for the Red Storm. St John’s represented themselves very well in the Big East tournament.
