Despite the difficult off-season for the Arkansas Razorbacks, they came into the 2012 season with high hopes. In four years at Arkansas, Bobby Petrino had improved the Razorbacks record every season and the team had won double digit games in successive years. They hoped to continue this trend even with a different head coach in place. The Razorbacks came into this game at 1-0 and were a 30 point favorite to win this game.
ULM scored first to take a 7-0 lead but after that it was all Arkansas. Arkansas took a 21-7 lead into the locker room at half-time and then stretched it to 28-7 with 9:42 left in the third quarter. Then the Warhawks took over.
Jyruss Edwards three yard TD run brought the Warhawks to within two touchdowns in the third quarter. Kolton Browning then led the Warhawks down the field completing six of seven passes including a TD pass to Kevin Steed to pull ULM to within one score. Arkansas held ULM off until the end of the fourth quarter when once again Kolton Browning started to cook.
Browning completed five of his first six passes on the game tying drive but then had three consecutive incompletions to bring up a critical fourth down with just 55 seconds left on the clock. Browning completed a 23 yard TD to Justin Leonard to tie the score, drive the game to overtime and shock fans all across college football.
In OT, Arkansas got the ball first and was held to a FG. The Warhawks were held on their first three downs and decided to go for it on 4th and 1. It worked as Kolton Browning took off on a 16 yard TD run for the win. The gutty move for ULM paid off and gave college football fans one of the most memorable moments of the season.
