Georgia Tech came into this game at 2-2 with losses to Virginia Tech and Miami (Fl). Middle Tennessee came in at 2-1 with a loss in their opener to McNeese State. Yes, McNeese State. Paul Johnson is a big fan of running the football and from his tweet around a week ago he's also a big fan of running up the score. Who knew that it would be the Blue Raiders, not the Jackets, that would run up the score in this game. Everything started according to the script for the Jackets as they stopped the Blue Raiders on their opening drive and turned an INT into a Tevin Washington TD run to take a 7-0 lead. That would be the last time Georgia Tech would hold the lead.
The game went back and forth until the third quarter when the Blue Raiders scored twice to take a 14 point lead into the fourth quarter. From there it was all Benny Cunningham as he scored two TDs in the final stanza (5 for the game) to give Middle Tennessee a run away win against the Jackets. Cunningham finished with 217 yards rushing.
