Bill Laimbeer’s expression (who is in Minnesota because he is now the assistant coach for the Timberwolves) pretty much sums it up. Drunken stupor? Lack of hitting? Brian Duensing? All of the above? Yeah.
Detroit managed a measly eight base runners all game long and could not come up with a big hit when they needed it. As a result, we’re looking at a 3-0 final score and just a three game lead in the Central Division.
Three seems to be the number of the night, because that’s not only how many runs the Tigers pitchers allowed, or what our Central Divison lead currently stands at, but also the number of Tigers hitters that showed up to the ballpark. Thames, Inge, and Granderson accounted for all the Tigers hits (5) and, clearly, it was not enough. Detroit also only struck out three times, which is low for them (they average 7 per game).
It’s just sad when the main highlights of the game were seeing Bill Laimbeer (above) and pictures of the rookies dressed up as women (see Alex Avila below).
Justin Verlander takes the bump tomorrow opposite Carl Pavano, who is 4-0 with a 1.48 ERA in 30+ innings vs. Detroit. Help.
