The Bills are 5-3 and are hosting their eternal (at least the last 15 years) reality check/”rival” the New England Patriots. The last time the Bills swept the Pats in a season, they made the playoffs. No pressure at all guys!

With all the injuries piling up for the Bills, this could get ugly for Buffalo if they aren’t carefully prepared. It’s a crying shame too, because I truly believe a healthy 2016 Bills can beat a Tom Brady led 2016 Patriots. But alas, unless Rex comes up with the game plan of the century and Buffalo’s 3rd string playmakers rise to the occasion, I have to go with New England over Buffalo, 30-14.

Last week was a big reality check for the Bills and us fans. The offensive line and front seven got dominated by the Dolphins, and the Bills blew a very winnable game, completely folding right after they had seemed to seize the game with the long Goodwin touchdown. Without McCoy (or with a hobbled McCoy that they keep throwing out there even though he clearly can’t make the same kind of cuts), the offense just can’t sustain drives, and the defense can’t hold up for that long. I hesitate to blame Tyrod for too much of last week’s loss, because he was absolutely sold out by his line and the Bills were too slow to react and call a couple screen plays, but he has to be better. Anyway, the game was bad, and it’s hard to see it getting much better this week.
With a healthy Shady, and a healthy Sammy, I could see the Bills taking this game from the Patriots. Right now, though, the Bills don’t even have a healthy Robert Woods, so I can’t see the offense doing much. With Marcell Dareus back, maybe you can hope that the defense will frustrate Brady (who’s not as mobile as Tannehill, who was able to wriggle out of a lot of Buffalo’s pressure last week), shut down the Pats running game, and force some turnovers. If the offense gets put it advantageous situations, maybe they can manufacture enough points to pull off the upset in front of a raucous crowd. And while I hope that will happen, I expect that the Bills will keep it close early before the defense withers and Brady starts picking them apart, as he always does. The Bills won’t have enough firepower to keep up, and they’ll fall to 4-4 halfway through the season.

Fuck New England. Go Bills. I can’t be bothered with a prediction, I’m knee deep in civ6 and whatever is left of my life will be playing titanfall this weekend. New England 42 Buffalo 0.

The line has moved to Pats -6.5, for a game in Buffalo, and is currently the biggest line of the week. Hopefully Rex plays the disrespect card up, but if Brady is playing, I refuse to pick the Bills over him. Nothing I saw last week gives me confidence (though hopefully Dareus is back), and BUF is not as good as their 4-3 record indicates. If you count the Pats with an injured third string Qb as good, BUF has played 1 truly good team to date in the first 7 weeks. This is the game where things start to get tougher schedule wise. I’d love to see something from Tyrod to give me hope this week. Pats 31 BUF 13.

Prediction is pain. STRAIGHT PAIN.

We’ve reached the point in the season where any sincere pick of mine will go the opposite way but if I try a reverse jinx that won’t work either. So I’m going to enjoy this one correct selection for the rest of the year. Playing the Pats with a healthy Tom Brady and healthy Rob Gronkowski is a recipe for disaster. Buffalo did a tremendous job shutting down New England’s attack earlier in the year but drawing comparisons between Jacoby Brissett and Brady isn’t fair no matter how you handicap it. I don’t think the Bills have enough fire power to win a puncher’s battle with New England and I don’t think they can do enough to win a tight, low-scoring battle. I’d say we see something closer to last year’s Monday Night affair in Foxboro with the Pats prevailing 27-14.

I could see the Patriots destroy the Bills just for the shutout Buffalo gave them at home earlier this year without Brady. Maybe the Bills find a way to pull out another win against New England, but if you’re selling it I’m not buying.

I’ve been in Florida for the past four days and it couldn’t come at a better time as I’m avoiding the mass panic surrounding the Bills’ loss to the Dolphins and the Sabres’ giant car wreck of a season so far.
I don’t have anything really interesting to say about this game. Brady is back and will probably carve this defense up. The Bills don’t have very many good players surrounding Tyrod on offense at this point, so this is probably a blowout.
It’s been over five years now since a Buffalo sports team played in a playoff game and that’s probably not changing until at least 2018. Someone make it stop.
Prediction: Patriots 41, Bills 14
