The Misses List: Bills vs Patriots-Week 3

stuartmeancat

-I’ve been saying it since the rumor was making its way around the campfire regarding the Bills decision to scrape the 4-3 defense for a 3-4; I didn’t like it. 9 months later, my opinion hasn’t changed. The defense looked pathetic today and the omen of the loss falls on them. Frankly, it didn’t matter if the Patriots kept on using some no-named running back from the Jets practice squad or had Brady throw on every down, the Bills had absolutely no answers for them-

-Donte Whitner is terrible. Personally, I think because of his Twitter page and his locker room quotes, factored into making him an overrated player during his first four years in the league. Now, everyone knows that he’s margianal safety at best for this team. He can’t cover a lick and he always takes terrible angles in trying to tackle anyone from a running back to a wide receiver. Plus, his mouth writes checks that his ass can’t cash. I think Whitner is coming very close to losing his job to George Wilson and frankly, the Bills should look into it. There’s no way the Bills are going to resign Whitner after this year. So, they may as well go with Wilson, who will more than likely stay on the team for much longer-

-Everybody has always talked about how Tom Brady owns the Bills. Well, Randy Moss pretty much leases and has a right to buy the Bills secondary. In nine games against Buffalo, Moss has 57 catches for 784 yards. His 10 touchdown grabs against the Bills are ranked 2nd, only behind Green Bay (12), for most TDs receptions against a team. Hmm, something tells me that unless Moss leaves New England after this year, he’s going to continue to torch the Bills and blaze past the Packers record-

– Anyone seen Marcus Stroud? I think I saw him on the back of my milk carton this morning. Seriously, where the hell has he been? The fact that he cashed in on a 32-million dollar extension last year, should make Bills fans’ blood pressure boil for being a complete bust for the team. I’d like to tell you that it has something to do with the team going to a 3-4 defense, but he didn’t do much last year when he playing at his natural position-

-How about that vintage secondary?! I’m sorry, but those guys stunk today and Drayton Florence had his worst day as a Bill. Then you had Leodis McKelvin; one moment, he’s making a great play on a football thrown his way, the next, he’s getting smoked by some wide receiver named Tate. Again, the secondary can have their twitter pages and talk junk till the cows come home, but you better back it up, and they certainly haven’t over the last two weeks-

-On a sidenote, what the hell are the Bills thinking in possibly giving Chris Kelsay a 24 million dollar contract extension? I mean, are they trying to bribe Kelsay because he may have walked in on Ralph Wilson shaking hands with Governor Schwarzenegger; guaranteeing that after he died, the Bills were moving to LA? It makes absolutely no sense. Kelsay has always been overrated and overpaid. Now that he’s  in the twilight of his career as a terrible outside linebacker, the Bills should just cut ties with him after the season. Again, it makes no sense! If anything, this move proves to me that either Buddy Nix is a complete idiot or  Ralph Wilson and Tom Modrak still have a lot of pull within the organization-

-Only the Bills defense would give up a 12-yard reverse to a tight end. Speaking of tight ends, do we have any on this team?-

-I know, I put Fitzpatrick on the hits list, as he played well through three quarters. However, the old Fitzpatrick showed up in the 4th quarter, throwing two costly interceptions. Look, I want to give Fitzpatrick credit for playing a decent game, but for the Bills to ask him to win ball games by living & dying by his arm, is a tad too much. The Bills averaged 5.6 yards a carry on the ground today and I would rather have the Bills let the running game play out, then to put the game in Fitzpatrick’s hands-

-Without question, this was Gailey’s best offensive gameplan of the season, but he made some dubious coaching decisions. I didn’t like the call on 4th and inches towards the end of the first half in trying to draw the Patriots offsides. I mean, have you ever seen that play work? Maybe it worked 60 years ago when Y.A. Tittle surprised the defense by doing it, but it doesn’t work nowadays. Not only was the call stupid, but why not go for it? At that point, you knew the Patriots couldn’t be stopped on offense and the Bills had to start putting touchdowns on the board. To make matters worse, the Patriots were able to drive down the field with less than 30 seconds left to hit the equalizer against the Bills. Again, if the Bills get the first down, the Patriots probably don’t score three points at the end of the half. The same logic comes into play when the Bills faced a 4th and 3, and elected to send Rian Lindell out for a 51-yard field goal attempt that he missed. Again, go for it, because the Patriots are running all over your defense-

-Look, I’ve been more patient with Aaron Maybin than most Bills fans have, but my goodness, can’t this guy do anything right? It seems like a  weekly occurrence that Maybin gets a stupid offsides penalty or a really dumb looking celebration-

-10 catches for 110 yards and 1 touchdown by two rookie tight ends for the Patriots? Yikes. These linebackers and safeties can’t cover the tight end to save their lives. Can you imagine if the Bills had to go up against the Cowboys and Chargers?-

-On a 2nd side note, I can’t help but laugh when I hear the WGR Post game show. Not only are the callers idiots, but they’re complete drunks. But, that’s not why I’m writing about the post game extra. You see, Mike Schopp has been going all “The Bills shouldn’t have benched Trent Edwards” rhetoric for this entire week. Now, I understand the reasons for not wanting to bench Edwards. I get that Chan Gailey and Edwards were kissing each other’s asses all summer, and that it only took two weeks for the coach to give the hook to his starter. I get that this decision could have come from Ralph Wilson, which I can understand why it wouldn’t sit well with some. However, Mike wouldn’t back down on his opinion and even had the gull to imply that Edwards would have put up 30 points against the Patriots.

Actually, let me paraphrase it: “We don’t know what Edwards would have done today. When he played the Patriots last year, the Bills were in the game throughout and even against the Dolphins, the team had a chance.” I’m sorry, but was Mike watching the season opener or was he planning on having another cheese draft? If the Bills had any competent quarterback against Miami, they would have pulled the game out. Point being: Don’t start making up stuff or giving wild hypothesis to support your theory, because you’re absolutely wrong. If Edwards started today, the Bills would have been screwed-
