Here are all the stories fit to talk about for the week that was:
Tyrod Extension? – With Jason LaCanfora’s tweet causing a stir, I figured I’d throw my two cents in:
If the Bills are able to come to terms with QB Tyrod Taylor, the template they are discussing is a bridge deal in the range of 2yrs, $30M
— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) August 4, 2016
If Tyrod takes that deal, his agent might need to be replaced. Sure, it’d be great for the Bills, but if you look as it stands now, he’s looking to make 24+ million dollars over the next two seasons – between his 3 million dollar salary and a potential franchise tag. If he locks himself in, for say 20 million guaranteed today, you get that money, but you also give yourself another 2 years in which you’re going to not maximize your money.
On the Bills side, if you can get the big money out of the way this year, you can get rid of Taylor if he under performs and not worry about being on the hook for beaucoup bucks in 17 and beyond. So, I’m looking at this cock-eyed at the moment.
IK goes up, IK goes down – After only a day of being knocked from the starter spot, it looks like IK is the guy replacing the Lawsons until their return(s). With his size and experience in the Ryan defense it makes sense – hopefully he’ll repay that faith with superlative play in the pre-season.
Receiver Competition updates – With Listenbee out recovering from his hernia surgery, Marquise Goodwin has done well for himself early on in camp as the lone speedster on the field. After his dalliance with becoming an Olympian, that’s good to see. The Gregs (Little and Salas) are fighting tooth and nail for the 3rd spot. Woods’ time thus far as the #1 receiver while Watkins recovers has only helped to remind that last year was an injury plagued one for the former Trojan – and good for him for grabbing the “brass ring” (word to VKM).
I also want to take time out and appreciate the work the local media has done in diversifying the coverage of camp. I don’t think many fans that are voicing complaints to Sal Capaccio about him not actively covering every Tyrod Taylor throw realize you can look at Joe Buscalgia’s reports and see how Taylor is doing.

Or if you don’t like Mike Rodak‘s coverage of the camp, take a gander at Jay Skurski, Matthew Fairburn, Ryan Talbot, Vic Carucci, Sal M … even Sully prior to his coverage of the Olympics. There’s a chicken for every pot so to speak. Due to the lack of a quarterback competition, use this time to take in the whole of camp, not just the Bills number one QB at times doing things he won’t in-game until he’s comfortable in practice.
Right now, the wide receiver / linebacker / right tackle / running back stories are far more germane to the season writ large than how Tyrod is doing or how much developing per day Cardale is doing.
(EJ is EJ. I accept this.)
Also, to the gentleman that wanted to claim that black QBs were inferior to white QBs citing history….

Sal FTW. I’m not even going to waste the keystrokes on how bad that take was by the original tweeter. But man, that was a take.
I’ll be back next week with the quips and the japes and the whatnot. And if you’re really really good this weekend, Joe will bring us all ice cream.
Well, he won’t – but we’ll have our first BW podcast finally up for your consumption. That I can promise.
