The Red Sox have lost free agent Billy Wagner to the Braves. By offering arbitration yesterday the team will now be compensated with a draft pick. This could now make signing Marco Scutaro easier. There had been some speculation towards the end of the season that Wagner might retire and there was a possibility that he might accept arbitration and stay with Boston. Re-signing Saito has now got to be a priority for Theo. The Red Sox might still go after Braves free agents Rafael Soriano or Mike Gonzalez, both of whom were offered arbitration yesterday but that would cost draft picks whereas Saito could be be brought back without impacting the future.
