Breakdown
Blair White is a one and one-half year starter at Michigan State University who initially earned his spot on the team as a walk-on. Despite his athletically humble beginnings, White ended up rising through the ranks of receivers at MSU, eventually becoming the starter halfway through his junior year. While he was not exactly the most amazing producer of 2009, his skill set and determination had some draft analysts putting him in the top 15 receivers of the draft.
In the end, Blair White slipped off everyone’s draft board but had numerous teams calling on him almost immediately afterward. White seriously impressed at the combine, placing amongst many of the top rated receivers in the 2010 draft. He also got good marks as one of the larger receivers in the draft with a large profile and strong build. He was noted for his strong hands and physical style of play. He was also noted for his good timing, running routes well, and getting good separation in zone coverages especially.
Blair went undrafted for a reason though. He had back surgery in 2007, after going through a glass door, and received 110 stitches. In terms of his play style though, White was criticized for being slow off the line. Also, he was criticized for a high running style, causing him to lose speed when making cuts. Finally, he was criticized for catching passes too close to his chest, under-utilizing his strong hands.
As a member of the Colts, White has been a consistently good receiver this off-season. While he has not had the highs of players like Taj Smith, he has also not had the lows either. He is a consistent feature with the second team receivers and has shown progress in the system that could land him a spot on the roster or the practice squad.
