Blogging with the Enemy – @ChicagoBearJew

I’ve always named this segment “Blogging with the Enemy” but when I catch up with my buddy, the Chicago Bear Jew, it doesn’t feel aptly named. Make sure you give the guy a follow on twitter, he’s legit when it comes to Chicago sports in general – particularly the Bears. It seems like the Saints play the Bears every season and we’ve frequently connected over the years before the two teams face each other. As always, his top notch insight is always appreciated. His responses make me feel two things. One, it makes me more confident going into this game. Two, it makes me angry with “CBJ” because it’s going to make the loss on Monday more painful. Here’s what he had to say about the game on Monday night:

The Saints Nation: Your defense is abysmal. I mean, like dumpster fire bad. Good news though, ours is worse. What do you trust more, either defense or a knife in a gun fight?

Chicago Bear Jew: I think the Bears are officially done. The coaching staff has lost this team and the talent isn’t there. The good news I won’t have to watch DJ Williams suck anymore. But the bad news is there’s not exactly an answer anywhere on this defense.

As far as which unit is better, I think the Bears without Brandon Marshall are even worse if that’s possible.

I’ll say the Saints defense is more trustworthy because you have a win over the Packers.

SN: So Kromer is an idiot. You’re welcome for him by the way. But isn’t he kind of right? I mean, he shouldn’t talk to the media period, but Cutler is overrated right? Who survives in Chicago through this offseason?

CBJ: Bears owner George McCaskey went on record saying that Jay Cutler is his favorite player. So take a moment to digest it…

Cutler is a coach killer. And he’s now an organization killer. This team is so screwed with him it’s amazing. I don’t hate Cutler; he’s not as bad of a guy as the media would have you believe. I just think he just doesn’t get it. I don’t know if Cutler is overrated. I think he’s pretty much been figured out as a guy that doesn’t get it.

Aaron Kromer, a competitive guy, really screwed up here. You can’t take things out of the locker room like that; ever. But at the same time, he’s expressing the same frustrations the fans experience. Hard not to blame him; but a real looking glass into the huge issues with this organization.

SN: How big of a deal is Brandon Marshall being out?

CBJ: Huge deal. While he’s been gutting it out, he’s not been 100 percent all season. Now take the clown college of receivers to fill in his role and do the math. It’s like going from steak to dog food.

Alshon Jeffery has been consistent but he won’t see one-on-one coverage the rest of the year. At least teams would have to respect Marshall. Now they’ll feel sorry for them. Haha

SN: When I look at the Bears this year I feel like the Saints are looking in the mirror. Explosive offense that gets in its own way with critical mistakes, combined with no defense at all. So my theory is whoever gets that early 2 score lead will blow out the other because the other team will quit. Either way, it will be a blow out and there is no telling which team wins. Agree?

CBJ: I love you man, but I’m going to disagree. The Bears of 2014 are in such bad shape they probably won’t win another game all year. I think the Saints will have their way with the Bears in all three phases of the game. The weather on Monday night isn’t going to be too bad, so look for the Saints to run and hide. Your blowout scenario holds water, but I don’t see anyway the Bears win or frankly come close on Monday.

SN: Name 5 players Saints should be most concerned about on Bears roster going into this game?

CBJ: Your local boy Matt Forte, Martellus Bennett and Alshon Jeffery on offense. Kyle Fuller and Willie Young on defense. And I had to dig for this answer. Despite not having the worst record in football, there’s very few teams I can think of that the Bears are worse than at this point of the season. Luckily I have season tickets to enjoy this for years to come.
