We’re later than usual to get our thoughts out but we wanted to make sure to get our Bloguin Heisman Poll in before the deadline. The guys from College Football Zealots once again are tabulating the votes and posting the results on Crystal Ball Run. Here is Nittany Lion’s Den‘s ballot for this week.
1. Robert Griffin III, Baylor Quarterback
I’m on board the RGIII band wagon, although I’m interested to see what he does against some of the better teams he will face this season, including Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and of course Oklahoma.
The stat that has been making the rounds around the Internet the past couple days is that Griffin has 13 touchdowns and just 12 incompletions (zero interceptions). Is it the system? Perhaps partially, but Griffin III is doing some magical things when he is on the field. After watching the quarterback situation unfold in State College, every chance I get to watch Griffin III is pure joy.
2. Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina Running Back
If a running back is going to win the Heisman this season it will be either Marcus Lattimore or Oregon’s LaMichael James. Right now I give the edge to Lattimore, who has nine total touchdowns (James has eight, which is not shabby either). Lattimore was limited to 77 rushing yards against Vanderbilt but picked up the slack for the passing game with 73 yards and recorded a touchdown on the ground and through the air, more than making up for an inept performance from quarterback Stephen Garcia.
3. Russell Wilson, Wisconsin Quarterback
Let’s be honest about this for a moment. Andrew Luck may be the best quarterback in the nation and the first pick in the NFL Draft in 2012, but Russell Wilson’s impact on the Badgers this season is tough to match after a few weeks.
We’ll see what Wilson does against those Big Ten defenses though.
