With the NBA regular season coming to a close it’s time for awards week at The Hoops Manifesto. We’ve teamed up with some of Bloguin’s best NBA writers to vote on who gets the (virtual) hardware. We finish up with: MVP and All-NBA Teams.
Voters: Jeff Fox from The Hoops Manifesto, Philip from Orlando Magic Daily, College Wolf and Dan Bonk from TWolves Blog, Aaron Hodges from Knicks Fanatics and Sean François from from Hoop Heads North.
Bloguin’s NBA MVP
Derrick Rose – Chicago Bulls
25.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 7.7 apg
We all thought it was pretty cute when little Derrick Rose proclaimed at the starting of the season that he had plans on being the NBA MVP. Rose did prove in his first two seasons in the League that he was a nice player – an All-Star even – but league MVP?! Wishful thinking, at best. Afterall, point guards don’t tend to win that award, anyway (other than Steve Nash, of course). And Rose wasn’t even considered the best player at his position heading into this season. Apparently the joke’s on us. Rose did indeed have a MVP-caliber season, excelling at both ends of the court and, most importantly, leading the Bulls to the best record in the NBA, despite having a rookie head coach and injuries to key players like Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah. Maybe from now on we’ll pay attention to Rose when he makes predictions – the kid could be the next Nostradamus.
Others receiving votes: Dwight Howard, Kevin Durant
