NBA Draft Blog is coordinating a Bloguin-wide mock draft. I’m in charge of both the Pistons and the Indiana Pacers. We’re almost finished with the draft, so picks 41-50 are here. I’ll have the last 10 picks posted later today, with each mock GM’s reasoning on why they made the pick. Check out the rest of the draft too: 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, & 31-40.
41. Miami Heat: Sylven Landesberg, Virginia – Ed Isaacson, NBA Draft Blog
Landesberg has great size at the shooting guard position and would be able to be on the court at the same time as D Wade. While defensively he needs help, he has the ability to score enough to make up for it.
42. Miami Heat: Tiny Gallon, Oklahoma – Isaacson, NBA Draft Blog
While only 6’9, Gallon’s 300 pounds are more than enough to patrol the middle. Character issues aside, when you get a chance for a 300 pounder who can hit jumpers, you grab him.
43. Los Angeles Lakers: Brian Zoubek, Duke – Don, With Malice
Realistically, Zoubek won’t impact the starters this season or any time soon, but this is a position that a player with any rebounding ability could see good minutes on a night-to-night basis.

44. Milwaukee Bucks: Trevor Booker, Clemson – Pants, TWolves Blog
Taking bench caliber PF’s is the bread and butter of the second round. They can come in and make layups and get rebounds all while making a GM look smart.
45. Minnesota Timberwolves: Lazar Hayward – Dave, TWolves Blog
Lazar is someone that is under the radar, but could definitely surprise people as a finished product in the NBA. Plus the Wolves desperately need some/more competent wings (no more Damien Wilkins or Sasha Pavlobrick next year please.)
46. Phoenix Suns: Willie Warren, Oklahoma – Isaacson, NBA Draft Blog
Warren’s explosiveness and ability to score in bunches will fit in well with the current Phoenix squad. Would have liked a power forward here, but didn’t like the choices – so go with the guy was projected as a lottery pick when the season began.
47. Milwaukee Bucks: Dexter Pittman, Texas – Pants, TWolves Blog
He’ll be a nice banger to give Bogut a break.
48. Miami Heat: Tibor Pleiss, Germany – Isaacson, NBA Draft Blog
Pleiss is still about 2 years from being ready to contribute in the NBA, but if he develops on schedule, he can Miami a major force in the middle for years down the road.
49. San Antonio Spurs: Charles Garcia – Michael, Project Spurs
Garcia gives the Spurs some length at the three (6-10) and he’s very active on the glass. I can imagine seeing Pop trying to mold him into a solid perimeter defender, considering his size, quickness and 7.175′ wingspan. Plus his last name is Garcia and who in San Antonio would not want a Spurs jersey with the name Garcia on it. If the Spurs draft, look for him to spend some time in Austin with the Toros as well.
50. Dallas Mavericks: Derrick Caracter, UTEP – The Real Shaq
Caracter is one large character who can clog up the middle with brute force. Surprisingly agile for his size (6’9, 280), Derrick is also an above average passer and mid-range shooter. With the impending exodus of Erick Dampier, the Mavs plan to cater to his strengths as an active rebounder and defensive presence inside.
