On a day where the Jackets had a lot of good news, a bit of sad news is following it all up. Long time defenseman of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Fedor Tyutin, was bought out today. Tyutin had two years left on his contract with an AAV of $4.5 million. More importantly, Tyutin had a no-movement clause that would have occupied one of the protection slots in next year’s expansion draft.

The Blue Jackets have never had great luck putting together a core of good defensemen, Tyutin as soon as he was acquired became one of the best that ever donned the Union Blue. He never was a player who would “wow” you with his offense, when it came down to it though, he wasn’t a bad offensive option during his tenure. He was on both Blue Jacket playoff teams and played the second most games in a Jackets uniform (553) only behind Rick Nash (674) for most all time.
#CBJ Fedor Tyutin had a $4.5M cap hit thru 2017-18. With buyout, he'll count $1.21M this season, $1.96M next and $1.46M in '18-19, '19-20.

His scoring fell off during the 14-15 season and promptly took a nose dive again this past year, yet his possession metric throughout were solid. This isn’t going to be the last time we see Tyutin play hockey, a pay cut and a lack of NMC will make him a very attractive piece to a contending club.
Tyutin was a hard worker and relentless hockey player, he exemplified what Blue Jackets hockey is all about. As time goes on, the contributions he made to the Jackets will be remembered fondly. I know I will remember them as such.
