Today the Columbus Blue Jackets made large cuts to their training camp roster. Some surprises in the group but for all intents and purposes this was to be expected.
#CBJ send 9 other players to Lake Erie Monsters: Bjorkstrand, Broadhurst, heatherington, Milano, Moutrey, Paliotta, Ramage, Sedlak, Tynan

Out of the group above the most surprising were Bjorkstrand, Milano and Paliotta. Bjorkstrand and Milano are big time prospects and should be seeing their names called up in short order if injuries ravage the team. Both had great tournaments in Traverse City as well, where Bjorkstrand had 8 points in four games. Paliotta on the other hand looked like he may have had an outside shot to make the roster as the eighth defensemen on the team but that distinction looks like it will be going to Justin Falk.
James Sheppard, Antti Pihlstrom and Dante Salituro have been released from their PTOs. #CBJ

As far as PTOs go Sheppard and Pihlstrom were brought in to push some of the younger players and occupy some space so they could fulfill their veteran requirement in their preseason games. Pihlstrom has had a middling career in the KHL and should see a return unless another NHL team signs him (which remains unlikely). Sheppard is a former first round pick and was a valuable player on the Sharks 3rd and 4th lines the past few years reaching 20 points in the 13-14 season. Our own Paul Berthelot loves the play of Dante Salituro, a diminutive forward. He is a player to monitor this upcoming year as he plays in his overage season for the Ottawa 67’s as Salituro was the leading goal scorer last year for the team.
