The Sox lost another series, this time at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays. Ryan Dempster took the mound for the Sox and was unable to get the rubber game for his team.
Dempster took the mound for the Sox and put the team in an early hole. He gave up two runs in the 2nd with an RBI single to Kawasaki. The Dempster started giving up homers like it was his job. Dempster gave up a solo HR to Bautista in the 3rd, a 2 run HR to Bonifacio in the 4th and a solo homer to Encarnacion in the 5th. Miller took over in the 6th and continued giving up the HRs with a solo HR to Lawrie in the 6th. Ahh, good times. With only one out, Miller was out and Mortensen was in the game. Unfortunately, Mortensen also continued with giving up HRs. Mortensen allowed a sac fly RBI and then gave up a HR to Bautista. By the end of the 6th the Sox were down 10-1. Mortensen did pitch a scoreless 7th inning and then Craig Breslow pitched a scoreless 8th innning. Those were the first scoreless innings since the 1st inning. In the 9th, Jose De La Torre made his major league debut with the Sox and while he didn't give up a HR, he did give up runs. At this point though, it didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. De La Torre gave up an RBI single to Encarnacion and then another run when Arencibia ground into a double play with no outs.
As for the Sox offense, they were able to score 5 runs, but when the pitching gives up 12 runs that doesn't seem like much at all. The first run was scored in the 4th when Mike Napoli hit a solo HR. The score was 1-5 at the time. Napoli was the solo bright spot on the night as he went 3 for 4 at the plate. The Sox scored their 2nd run in the 6th inning when Nava hit a sac fly to score Pedey. Sox 2-10. The Sox scored their final two runs in the 8th inning when Pedro Ciriaco hit a solo HR and then Salty hit an RBI groundout to score Napoli.
Let's hope the Sox break out of this losing rut and soon.
