Blues a possible but unlikely destination for Jimmy Vesey

Talented young skater Jimmy Vesey is planning on hitting the open market when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in August. Vesey’s rights were traded from the Predators to the Sabres, but Vesey has stated on multiple occasions he wants to explore free agency. Since then, dozens of teams have expressed an interest and one of those is rumored to be the St. Louis Blues.

Recently, the Boston Globe spoke with Vesey about his future and made some educated guesses on where the forward might land. The Blues were mentioned as a potential option, but it’s one of the more unlikely options out there.

Via the Globe:

Though Vesey won’t identify who he thinks will make his short list, it’s likely Boston will be on it, along with the likes of Toronto (where Jim Vesey, his father, is a scout), Buffalo, the three teams in metro New York, possibly along with Philadelphia and perhaps St. Louis. His father had a brief NHL tour and has a number of pals in Blues hockey operations.

It sounds like Vesey’s only real connection to the Blues is through his father and other options might be more appealing. Still, that’s at least an intriguing angle especially considering the Blues have some vacancies at forward after David Backes and Troy Brouwer chose new teams.

Vesey recently said he felt “very comfortable” after meeting with the Sabres, but that connection may not be too strong as he’s still shopping around.

Don’t count on the Blues securing Vesey, but it’s something Blues fans can dream about since there’s at least a minor connection.
