Blues acquire Richard Nedomlel from the Red Wings

The Blues are at the center of a ton of different trade rumors and they actually made a deal on Friday. The Blues orchestrated a trade with the Red Wings, acquiring Richard Nedomlel in exchange for future considerations.

This trade registers at about a zero on the ol’ excitement meter. Nedomlel, 22, has skated in just two AHL games this season along with 10 ECHL games. Across those two leagues, he has two assists and 34 penalty minutes. There’s not too much to analyze here, especially considering the Blues haven’t even stated what they are paying in this deal.

Here’s some thoughts on Nedomlel, via Hockey’s Future:

Nedomlel is not going to quarterback the powerplay or make thrilling end-to-end rushes. He is a big, mean, physical stay at home defenseman who isn’t afraid to drop the gloves and doesn’t lose often when he does so. His offensive upset is limited but he does provide a steady, physical, defensive presence on the back end.

It’s not overly encouraging to see fighting as one of Nedomlel’s key skills seeing as that aspect of hockey is fading out of the NHL, but it sounds like he’s an extremely physical defenseman. Over the last few years, that’s an area the Blues have lacked, but now they have some pretty big bodies patrolling on D. This move was designed to give the Chicago Wolves some size on defense as the Blues have called on several larger players to come in and help out while the team deals with injuries.
