The Blues continued to fill out their depth, signing defenseman Andre Benoit to a one-year, two-way contract believed to pay a $600,000 NHL salary and a $350,000 AHL salary. Benoit previously skated for the Buffalo Sabres, appearing in 59 games in 2014-15 while scoring one goal and eight assists.
Benoit, 31, is purely a depth signing. Though he appeared in a large number of games for the Sabres last season, he’d likely only see significant NHL time should the Blues suffer an injury to one of their key defensive contributors.
Despite being 31, Benoit doesn’t have a ton of NHL experience. He has skated in just 137 games, the most occurring in 2013-14 when he suited up for 79 games for the Colorado Avalanche. He was actually pretty impressive offensively, chipping in seven goals and 21 assists.
