The St. Louis Blues’ win over New Jersey on Thursday night saw a relatively low attendance of 16,523. Despite the sparse crowds, Blues fans showed up in waves to watch the game on Fox Sports Midwest. The 6.9 household rating from the 4-3 win was the highest-rated game so far in 2014-15 and the second-best regular season game rating ever on Fox Sports Midwest.
A six-game winning streak and a guy named Vladimir Tarasenko propelled Thursday’s win past the 2014-15 home opener which earned a 6.4 rating last month.
While those numbers are impressive enough as is, the broadcast’s performance in key demos in St. Louis such as Adults 18-34, Men 18-34 and Men 18-49 is truly worth noting. The Blues-Devils contest was the #1 program in all three demographics, even beating out Thursday Night Football on NFL Network.
For the year, Blues ratings are up 6% compared to last season. It’s remarkable what a lengthy winning streak and a special player like Tarasenko can do to the bottom line. Now, if only we could improve the whole attendance issue…
