Blues give Brian Elliott three-year deal

Brian Elliott will be sticking around St. Louis. The goaltender has signed a three-year deal worth $7.5 million to remain with the St. Louis Blues. Elliott’s signing signals two things: 1) The St. Louis crease will feature Jake Allen and Elliott next season and 2) the Ryan Miller era in St. Louis is over.

Elliott seemed pretty happy once the news broke:

Doug Armstrong on the deal, via the Post-Dispatch:

“Brian will team up next year with Jake Allen to provide our goaltending tandem. We’re looking forward to those two guys competing and performing well.”

Elliott’s numbers were certainly deserving of a new deal, but the team had to ultimately make a decision on Miller. Should they bring Elliott back, they’d have to wave the white flag on Miller and admit the trade didn’t work out. Ultimately, that’s what happened (more on this in a later article) and Elliott now will join Allen in net.
