The search for a new goaltending coach is over. Just a few days after the Blues stated they weren’t in a rush to name a new coach, they announce they have hired Jim Corsi. You’re probably pretty familiar with Corsi’s resume (yes, he created the fancy stat), but if you aren’t, he served as Buffalo’s goalie coach for 16 seasons.
Corsi is a nice addition by the Blues, but it’s also kind of a strange one. After the Blues announce they’re letting Miller walk, they go and sign the man who was responsible for a lot of his success? Odd. The move is a good one, but it would’ve made a lot more sense had Miller signed a new contract.
This move is an upgrade. Corey Hirsch had a nice run with the Blues, but he was partially responsible for Miller playing too deep in his net. If you recall, he also instructed Jaroslav Halak when he first joined the Blues and the result was a Halak who also played deep in his net and often looked a bit too lackadaisical. Hirsch got a free pass and the team rebounded, but it was clear the team needed to make a change after the Miller experiment.
