The St. Louis Blues have invited Scottie Upshall to training camp. Recently, the team announced they had invited Scott Gomez to camp and soon after it was revealed that Patrik Berglund would miss at least four months after requiring shoulder surgery. Now the Blues have called on another to tryout for a potential opening on the roster.
Upshall most recently skated with the Florida Panthers and is set to turn 32 in October. He appeared in a total of 63 games for the Panthers in 2014-15 and scored eight goals and added seven assists.
Like Gomez, Upshall will be given a shot to compete with some of the team’s young stars for a spot on the roster. While most assume that skaters such as Ty Rattie and Robby Fabbri are ready to make the permanent jump, it’s possible things won’t go as planned in camp. In that case, either Gomez or Upshall could be ready to slide in.
At the very least, Upshall is excited about the opportunity.
Thrilled to be invited to the @StLouisBlues camp. I believe this team is very close to winning a Stanley Cup and that's exciting!!
