Blues pull off the unexpected with a Game 7 win against the Stars

That was a shocking result for the Blues. Not quite as shocking as how badly the Stars played at home in a Game 7, but that final 6-1 result wouldn’t have been predicted by even the most loyal Blues fan.

The Blues managed eight shots in the first period, but thanks to some outstanding secondary pressure and Kari Lehtonen being Kari Lehtonen, the team left after 20 up by three. Still, the lead didn’t seem safe. No lead is safe with the Blues. Shockingly, they didn’t let down in the second period. Dallas brought a better effort with 18 total shots, but the Blues were the team to find the back of the net. Twice.

Even up 5-0, a comeback in the third seemed possible. Unlikely but possible. Dallas got one back, but the Blues conceded only once, tallied with the goal empty and then it was on to the handshakes.

Maybe fans should expect the unexpected?

The Blues entered Game 7 with a goalie “controversy” which never should have even been a discussion. They were coming off an ugly Game 6 defeat at home. A lot of stars (bad pun) were lined up against the Blues and yet they rattled off one of their most complete efforts to date.

This team has been incredibly difficult to analyze or even forecast, but who cares as long as they’re winning?
