It actually happened. The St. Louis Blues signed Paul Stastny to a four-year contract worth $28 million. Stastny, 28, finally addresses a glaring need the Blues have had at center for the last several seasons.
Here’s how his contract with the Blues looks:

Some may say the Blues paid too much, but it was clear Stastny was going to get a raise over the $6.6 million he earned with Colorado last season. Reports have come out stating took less money to play with St. Louis because it’s where he grew up and because the team is a contender. Had the Blues passed or had Stastny had a change of heart, he likely would have raked in well above $7 million a year.
Talk about a surprising day. Stastny always seemed like a bit of a pipe dream considering reports which indicated over half the league wanted his services, but the Blues were able to secure their man. Earlier in the day the club signed Jori Lehtera to a two-year deal which mostly looked like the team’s Plan B should Stastny fall through. Low and behold, the Blues grabbed Plan A and Plan B.
