The Blues looked outstanding for long stretches in Game 4. Vladimir Tarasenko was spectacular, notching two goals in what proved to be a losing effort. With a 3-2 lead and only a handful of minutes left to play in the third, a victory was within reach. Then the Blues committed the #1 mistake you can’t make while protecting a lead – sit back on defense.
Chicago tied the game and took it to OT. Though the Blues looked solid in OT and had a handful of chances, they seemingly forgot one thing – Patrick Kane will burn you if you let him. The Blues backed away and backed away. Kane rung a shot off the pipe. Lesson learned, right? Unfortunately no, as Kane drifted in later with all of the time and space he could hope for and buried a shot to give Chicago a critical Game 4 win.
There’s a lot to criticize, but let’s stick with the positive.
Tarasenko was awesome. He nearly completed the hat trick in overtime, but the puck sailed a bit wide.

It’s a shame the Blues wasted Tarasenko’s efforts. They wasted a glorious opportunity to put this series almost out of reach for Chicago. Now, with three games to go, the Blues find themselves battling an opponent who continues to gain more and more momentum.
