It’s been nearly four years since Bob Feller passed, and since then, the Bob Feller Museum in the Hall of Famer’s hometown of Van Meter, Iowa has seem some tough times.
Wednesday, it was announced that the Museum would be closing its doors. Kinda.
“[Feller] truly was the engine that made that place run and with his passing, the museum struggled,” board member Bob DiBiasio told The Des Moines Register.
“The imagery associated with the museum is sort of intertwined with our brand as a city,” city administrator Jake Anderson added. “We wouldn’t allow it to just close. We had to do something.”
So what did the city come up with? Beginning in the spring, the site will double as City Hall and as a shrine to Feller…allowing fans to stop in free of charge.
“I would say about half of it will be converted to offices and the rest will remain dedicated to Bob Feller,” Anderson said.
But that’s not all.
DiBiasio told the newspaper that most of the items will head to Progressive Field to be part of an exhibit honoring the Indians the 266 game winner. Team officials say it should be ready by Opening Day 2015.
