Bob Nutting addressed his charges today. From the PG:
“The real message was a change in level of expectations,” Nutting told reporters. “It is critically important that they understand, and we understand, that 2011 is not going to be a year where small bits of incremental progress are going to be adequate.”
Obviously some people will call this typical bluster that Nutting won’t back up, but he is right about the level of expectations. Us fans get pretty beaten down by the perception of 18 consecutive losing seasons, but besides a couple guys no player on the club has had an impact on more than one or two of those seasons. Just “being the Pirates” shouldn’t be an excuse, because most of the players on the squad just haven’t been Pirates for that long.
Nutting also said this:
“Until we win a National League championship, we are not going to be satisfied with incremental progress,” Nutting said. “It is critically important they understand that right up front.”
