The Boston Red Sox have signed outfielder Bobby Kielty to a minor league contract. First requested by Zach four days ago, the dream has come true. Kielty is reporting to Triple-A Pawtucket, and reportedly has an out clause if he is not promoted to the Red Sox in a week. Kielty, entertaining offers from Boston, New York (Yankees) and two other clubs, chose Boston as “the right fit.”
Expect Kielty to get some playing time in Pawtucket to freshen up (he has only played in 13 games this season and spent time on the 60-day DL for a strained left calf) then to report to Boston, likely at the expense of Wily Mo Pena. It will be interesting to see the roster shenanigans, as the Sox will not want to lose Pena on waivers.
