The Tampa Bay Lightning (1-0-1) had a five-goal second period and beat Nashville 7-4 at the prospects tournament in Coral Springs yesterday.
Nikita Nesterov, Tanner Richard, Nikita Kucherov, Vladislav Namestnikov, Drew Olson, Danick Gauthier and J.T. Brown all had goals.
Eric Brassard started the game between the pipes but left in the second period with an upper-body injury after stopping 19 of 21 shots. Kristers Gudlevskis stopped seven of nine shots.
Both teams tallied 30 shots. The Predators went 2-for-5 with the man advantage while Tampa Bay was 1-for-1.
Jonathan Drouin, Maxime Langelier-Parent, Slater Koekkoek and Artem Sergeev were all healthy scratches. Rookie tourney head coach Rob Zettler stated, “There’s nothing behind it. We had talked about it prior to the tournament. We had some people in mind we didn’t want to play three games in three days because they haven’t skated much in the past few weeks, so it was by design.”
