The Lightning have signed free agent veteran forward Brenden Morrow to a one year, $1.55 million contract. GM Steve Yzerman wanted a veteran forward and Morrow fits the bill. He had 25 points for the Blues last season. Morrow will mentor the Lightning’s young forwards and be a great teammate in the locker room.
The 35-year-old spent most of his career with the Dallas Stars, before he was traded to Pittsburgh in 2013.
Morrowis a playoff veteran, appearing in 94 career Stanley Cup playoff games, accumulating 19 goals and 46 points.
He was chosen by Bolts GM Steve Yzerman to play for Team Canada in the 2010 Olympics. This is the perfect signing by Yzerman…a proven leader who can help the young forwards develop and can chip in with some big points.
Pure speculation: The Morrow signing may signal that the unsigned Richard Panik is thinking about playing in Europe.
Tampa Bay also signed forward Philippe Paradis to a one-year, two-way contract. Paradis played in 56 games with the Syracuse Crunch last season, recording six goals and 15 points. He has played in 166 career American Hockey League games with the Toronto Marlies, Rockford Ice Hogs and the Crunch, recording 13 goals and 43 points.
