Jason Varitek and Jorge Posada are of similar age.
Both are catchers.
The similarities stop there, but Scott Boras said he thinks Varitek is worthy of a four-year, $52.4 million commitment, which is what Posada got last year. Yeah, that worked out well… dude might not even be a catcher ever again and he missed most of the year.
That’s even ignoring his career best 154 OPS+, posted his year before free agency. Varitek? A career worst 73.
Come on now.
Boras seems to think that the Sox’s 60 percent winning percentage with ‘Tek behind the dish over the last five years matters more. Oh, and he suggests writing off ‘Tek’s 2008 season because of personal struggles.
Enjoy your golden years in Dodger blue, Jason. Thanks for Russell Martin.
