Josh Beckett didn’t need the early run support. He didn’t allow a hit until the seventh inning.
Beckett cruised to his sixth victory striking out nine but gave up a hit with two outs in the seventh to Curtis Granderson to lose the no-no.
It’s not like Dennis Eckersley made it apparent that Beckett had the no-hitter going.
On the offensive side, J. D. Drew homered in the first inning giving Boston a 2-0 lead, and David Ortiz had a two-RBI double in the eighth.
Star of the Game – Clearly Beckett
Beckett went 7 2/3 innings, two hits, three runs (none earned), two walks and nine K’s.
Next Game – 6/04 vs. Detroit Tigers – Tim Wakefield/Dontrelle Willis
It will be nice to see Willis pitch again from a baseball fan point of view.
