Daisuke Matsuzaka and Terry Francona were both in search of wins. Both, for different reasons.
Matsuzaka earned his first victory of the 2009 season pitching 5 innings, yielding six hits, one run, three walks and six strikeouts. Francona won his 500th game as a manager for the Boston Red Sox.
J.D Drew got things started for the Red Sox in the first with an RBI single. After Miguel Cabrera tied the game in the bottom frame with an RBI single of his own, Jason Bay put the game away.
Bay launched a two-run homer in the third, his 16th of the season, giving Boston all the runs they needed.
The Red Sox tacked on two more in the sixth with a Dustin Pedroia bases loaded walk. Then, also with the bases loaded, Kevin Youkilis was hit by-a-pitch for a 5-1 Boston lead.
