Two things remained perfect last night at Fenway Park.
With the win, Tim Wakefield improved to 5-0 this season at home and the Boston Red Sox improved to 7-0 against the New York Yankees also this season.
Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis both homered and Jonathan Papelbon closed out the ninth for his 15th save of the season.
Lowell hit a solo shot in the third giving Boston a 4-1 lead at the time and Youkilis hit a two-run homer in the fourth for a 6-2 Red Sox lead.
Wakefield (8-3) pitched six innings, allowed eight hits, three runs (all earned), two walks and struck out two batters.
Star of the Game – Hideki Okajima
Okajima held down the fort after Ramon Ramirez gave up homers to Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira in the seventh. Okajima pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing no runs, no hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
