Fine Jason Bay, next time I WILL pick you for the Star of the Game. I got the message.
The New York Yankees, however, haven’t.
In his first at-bat, Bay lifted a three-run jack to left field — his seventh homer this season — against Joba Chamberlain giving Boston a 4-0 lead in the first inning. It was a lead Boston would never surrender.
Much like Evan Longoria has been a thorn in the side of the Red Sox all season, Bay has been the same against New York. He is 10-for-18, good enough for a .556 average, with three bombs and 10 RBIs against the Yankees.
Josh Beckett earned his third win of the season returning somewhat to his old form pitching six innings, yielding 10 hits, three runs, one walk and five strikeouts.
Star of the Game – Bay
I GOT THE MESSAGE.
Next Game – 5/06 vs. Cleveland Indians – Carl Pavano/Justin Masterson
Cleveland has lost three out of their last five games.
Noteables: Dustin Pedroia was 3-for-4 in the win with two runs scored and David Ortiz had an RBI single in the top of the first to put Boston ahead 1-0 before Bay’s blast.
