The shortened off season continues to roll on. The Bolts are definitely staying busy at home and abroad. They’re enjoying time with family, friends, and using the time off to give back to their communities. Here’s what they’ve been up to over the last week.
Great day filming Hit The Ice. Helping kids make the step to the next level! #hittheice pic.twitter.com/aNZK7jZny5

Earlier this week Alex Killorn tweeted that he spent the day filming with Hit The Ice for their television show and website. This project brings together the top 20 Aboriginal players in between the ages of 16 to 18 for two weeks. They go through a professional training camp and work with former NHL player and coach John Chabot to prepare for their on ice audition in front of junior scouts. If things go well they may garner a walk-on tryout with a Major Junior team. Check out the trailer for the new season for cameos by Lightning Strength and Conditioning coach Mark Lambert as well and assistant GM Pat Verbeek.

Congratulations to Anton Stralman and his wife Johanna on their recent wedding. The two renewed their vows after a “rushed” wedding in 2009 so their (then) two children could get US visa’s to join Stralman in Columbus. Thanks to Carl Hagelin’s Twitter it’s clear that Swedish NHLers were well represented at the event. Current teammate Victor Hedman and former teammate Henrik Lundqvist rounded out a very dapper group.
Steven Stamkos took part in the second annual Slow-Pitch Game for Keir’s Kause last Saturday at the Barrie Community Sports Complex. The foundation’s namesake is Keir Baumgarten, who grew up playing sports with Stamkos and Winnipeg Jets goalie Michael Hutchinson. Baumgarten passed away following a tragic car accident and his family started the organization to raise money for the Simcoe County Children’s Aid Foundation. Former Bolts Teddy Purcell and Steve Downie also participated.
And finally J.T. Brown enjoyed playing some golf and wearing fantastic pants. Perhaps the Norwegian curling team was a fashion inspiration.
