Boxscore Breakdown #104: Dre Day – Dodgers 5, Angels 3

So that Andre Ethier-for-C.J. Wilson swap suddenly seems like a pretty big missed opportunity, no? I still wouldn’t have done that deal, but it is a lot harder to say that after Ethier almost single-handedly beat the Angels and Wilson’s elbow gave out. The bigger missed opportunity is the Angels getting a win to end their losing streak.

For the second straight game Mike Trout was the biggest RE24 drain, but nobody was all that bad.

Joc Pederson had a terrible day at the plate, but his work in the field might have saved the game for the Dodgers. Howie Kendrick very much looks like he will go down in history as one of the great former Angels who will always haunt the Halos.

Mat Latos also made an abbreviated start, but it was good enough for the Dodgers.

Bullpen Battle

Yep, just one guy. Definitely wouldn’t have wanted to use that guy. Drew Rucinski, got to get him in the game, but not that other guy. The Dodgers bullpen failed them too, but not quite as badly.

They’ve had so many aborted comebacks in the last week that when they pulled off the comeback twice, you figured this game was meant to be. NOPE.

It wasn’t Drew’s fault that Scioscia went to him instead of Street, but it was Drew’s fault that he piped one to Ethier.
