Boxscore Breakdown #120: Repellent Shark – Angels 1, White Sox 0

05

Oh my Flying Spaghetti Monster, what a disastrous night for the Angels offense. A night after they scored five runs on five hits, the Angels didn’t go down in order until the seventh inning. Of the first 15 outs they made, 10(!) came with runners in scoring position, so they basically spent most of the first half of the game on the verge of scoring, only they didn’t. Jeff Samardzija just kept escaping jams, including a no outs, bases loaded situation because what is more quintessentially the 2015 Angels than not scoring a run with the bases loaded and no outs. I guess you could say that the Angels let the Shark off the hook.

The other part was Johnny Giavotella just not having enough Cajun elf magic left. Fortunately, Carlos Perez, who has been hitting pretty well lately, catching a Shark mistake to score the only run of the game.

Shuck had two hits apiece. Shuck ended up in the negative for RE24 because of his baserunning failures, which delighted me to no end. Adam LaRoche had just the one at-bat, but GIDP’d to prevent the Angels from blowing this one. Thanks, Adam.

Starting Pitcher Scores

He was sharp and efficient and SUPER pissed off when Scioscia hooked him after just 86 pitches. Shark had a pretty solid game score, but let’s be honest, he was lucky to have that kind of line. He wasn’t good at all, the Angels were just that bad.

Bullpen Battle
[googleapps domain=”docs” dir=”spreadsheets/d/1XgupUbVTgjILHL5WBEWz_sB6WP8O8f3ialejDQmfOn0/pubchart” query=”oid=1141913419&format=interactive” width=”620″ height=”315″ /] What made the choice to give Weaver a quick hook odd was knowing full well that Street wasn’t going to be available, so the Angel bullpen was short-handed and worked hard over the last two weeks. Trevor Gott and Joe Smith got the job done, but only just barely.

Weaver was pretty good but Carlos was responsible for the one and only run of the entire contest.
