Boxscore Breakdown #124: The worst loss of the season – Blue Jays 12, Angels 5

IMG_0599

This was the worst loss of the season for the Angels. They didn’t get beaten by double digits like they did the day before, but this one still takes the cake. It is actually because they lost badly the night before that makes this one hurt so much. They had just gotten embarrassed at home and just had one of their own call them out in public to play better. They then came out of the gates in a flurry of offense we haven’t seen in weeks… and then promptly shut it all down. 11 unanswered runs later, the Angels completed getting swept at home and setting a score of ignominious franchise records for runs allowed in a home series. The Angels are now in third place in their division, out of the Wild Card spot and still desperately looking for answers.

Cron did everything they could, but nobody else saw fit to help them out after the first inning. David Murphy tried, but somehow he came off the bag for a microsecond and turned a double into an out. Albert Pujols almost single-handedly made sure that the Angels were unable to get back on the board after their first inning outburst. But at least the defense was shoddy once again.

Hell, Ryan Goins was even knocking the ball all around the yard. How this team doesn’t score a 12 runs every game is beyond me.

After that, it was a total shitshow. Something is tragically wrong with his slider and I suspect we’ll see a lot more of this until he gets it fixed. R.A. Dickey was lousy, but he faced the Angels, so it didn’t end up hurting him.

Bullpen Battle

When your “ace” can’t hold down a four-run lead after the first inning, you’re gonna have a bad time.
