Boxscore Breakdown #35: Full release – Angels 3, Orioles 1

Jered Weaver did it again. By that I mean pitched well, but also kept his velocity trending every so slowly upwards. He came in just a hair shy of breaching the 86 MPH velocity average on his fastball.

However, he also didn’t maintain the different release point from his previous strong start. That’s discouraging because it seemed as if it was the missing piece to make his game work. It is, however, also encouraging because he was able to succeed in spite of that.

Erick Aybar‘s season line suddenly looks like his normal line. C.J. Cron chipped in two hits, which is impressive because it means he even got one hit. On the other side of things, the regression train appears to be bearing down on Johnny Giavotella.

Weaver almost certainly could’ve gone longer here, but Scioscia didn’t want to mess around after the one mistake Weaver made all day. Wei-Yin Chen did a lot too, just not as much as he Jered did.

Getting a run off Tommy Hunter helped the Angels feel a little bit better about themselves, but that’s it.

There was two small dips along the way, but nothing worth breaking a sweat over.

Sorry we ever doubted you, Jered. I’m just going to go ahead and pre-apologize for when we doubt you again next year too.
