Boxscore Breakdown #38: @#$%! – Blue Jays 10, Angels 6

quick

So many expletives, so little time. Actually, it was more about the timing of all those expletives. It should be seen as no strange coincidence that Josh Donaldson had his expletive-laden display at almost the exact same time that the Angels middle relief had their expletive-inducing display to cost the Angels the game. How is one supposed to curse out the bullpen for blowing a rare offensive outburst and wag a finger at Donaldson for cursing at the Angels dugout?

In particular, Chris Iannetta had a breakout game. There is no guarantee he’ll keep it up, but at least we’ve seen that he can still do this. Johnny Giavotella also broke out of his recent slump. Meanwhile, we’re going to just be quiet and pretend that Mike Trout isn’t in the midst of a small slump himself.

I’d say that he’s feeling better. In fact, a lot of the Jays must’ve been feeling pretty good after this game.

Wilson reverted back to bad C.J. form for a game. The good news is that he actually didn’t let this game get away from him. He had one particularly bad inning, but otherwise was able to dance around the raindrops. Hopefully this is just a one game blip. Saving C.J. from looking too bad was Todd Redmond. Granted, it took a little while for the Angels to get to Redmond, but once they did, they took full advantage. This shouldn’t be something to brag about, but given the way the Angels have hit this year, it kind of is.

Bullpen Battle

Mike Morin seemed to fall apart after possibly injuring himself while fielding or maybe he got rattled by the Josh Donaldson nonsense. Vinnie Pestano sure seemed to be rusty after not pitching for over a week. Cesar Ramos was just bad. Toronto’s relievers struggled as well, just not enough for the Angels to mount a second comeback in the game.

Game Flow

It looked like it was over after C.J. imploded. Then it looked like it was over after the Angels took the lead. But it was REALLY over when Vinnie Pestano couldn’t bail out Morin.
